Dr Marjorie Young

We were deeply saddened to learn of the death of our colleague Dr Marjorie Young on November 28th 2019.  Marjorie started her career in Dermatology at the Skin Department of the Royal Victoria Infirmary, Newcastle upon Tyne, under the direction of Professor Ingram, the first Professor of Dermatology in the United Kingdom.  She continued her training in Dublin on coming to Ireland when she married Senior Counsel Mr. Paul Carney, later Judge Carney who predeceased her in 2015.

Marjorie was appointed as a Consultant Dermatologist to the Adelaide Hospital Dublin and also to St James’s Hospital.  She was admired for her astute diagnostic skills and also for her contribution to building the reputation of Dermatology as a respected medical specialty within Dublin medical circles.  She also qualified as a Barrister and is remembered as a fair and thoughtful person and a supportive mentor.

Marjorie was a loyal and committed member of the IAD.  She served as President 1985-1987.  Marjorie regularly attended meetings along with other colleagues travelling to Belfast and beyond during the difficult days of the troubles.

On behalf of the association, I would like to extend our condolences to Marjorie’s children Jonathan (Eoin), Jules, Phillip and Rosalind and also the wider family circle.

Dr. Olivia Dolan, IAD President
