Dr David O’Gorman RIP

It was with great sadness that we learned of the passing of our colleague Dr David O Gorman during the summer. David single- handedly pioneered Dermatology services in the West of Ireland. He literally travelled the highways and bye- ways from Ballina to Portiuncula and back to Galway on a weekly basis- something that would be unthinkable nowadays.

David was a very well respected colleague here at UHG and appreciated by the many patients he cared for so diligently over the years. His commitment to Dermatology education, training and the plight of doctors in Ireland was demonstrated by his involvement in the Irish Medical Organisation and the Irish Association of Dermatologists. David and his wife Maureen were regular attendees at our IAD meetings and he served as President of the IAD from 1989-1991.

On retirement David continued to keep his dermatology skills up to date and was regularly attending our multidisciplinary meetings at UHG. Those of us working in dermatology in the West of Ireland and our patients owe David a huge debt of gratitude for his dedication over the years.

On behalf of the members of our association I would like to express our deepest sympathies to Maureen and his family at this sad time.

Dr Trevor Markham
IAD President
